Tom Meyer started visiting Phillips as a young boy when his parents purchased a cabin on Soo Lake. When he turned eighteen, he decided to make Phillips his home. As a northwoods resident, he loves gun deer hunting, fishing, and simply enjoying the outdoors. Tom also enjoys woodworking as a hobby.
Tom has two daughters, Kayla and Kelsie, 23 year old twins. He works for the Red Apple Development Center helping developmentally disabled people perform jobs at local businesses.
Unfortunately, Tom was diagnosed with lymph node cancer in late spring. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. The good news is that Tom's prognosis looks positive. The tricky part of his recovery is that he has to drive about 160 miles five days per week, to and from Marshfield, which has left him unable to work, and he does not have any sick time or disability benefits.
A benefit will be held for Tom at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 16th at Crane Chase Tavern. There will be a raffle and a DJ.
