Three prominent events in the area have announced cancellations.
Many already know that on March 25, 2020, it was announced that the Czech-Slovak Festival, held annually in Phillips, will be postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The theme for 2021 will be "Family, Friends, and Neighbors," which would have been the theme for this year's event.
Vernette Moravek, president of the event, stated, "It was a difficult but obvious decision considering the current situation in America combined with the fact that those who historically attend and support the festival are among the most vulnerable in our community."
As of Monday, May 18, 2020, another area event has been cancelled and postponed until the following year. In a unanimous board decision it was decided that Flambeau Rama, held annually in Park Falls, will not entertain guests in 2020.
According to the Park Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, "Each year the historical event attracts thousands of visitors and residents to the event grounds in Park Falls. Unfortunately, with the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 virus, the ability to provide adequate community safety, reduced resources, and timing, we feel the best decision is to postpone."
To come to this decision, hours of research, communication with state and local health administrators, residents, businesses, suppliers, and the insurance provider for Flambeau Rama were considered. It was decided the event could not safely take place this year but plans are to bring Flambeau Rama back in 2021.
While Harbor View Pub & Eatery - http://www.HarborViewOnline.com - is once again open for business after the "Safer at Home" order was stopped, the Float-in Fly-in that is held every year during 4th of July celebrations has been cancelled for this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
